Yogesh Ramkrishna

(b. 1991)

Yogesh Ramkrishna is a multi-disciplinary visual artist from Pune city, Maharashtra. He specializes in multiple methods of traditional and contemporary printmaking, drawing, and installation, and his works include different levels of interactivity. His works convey his own perspectives on the current socio-political condition, cultural propaganda, and post-truth era behaviors in society. He articulates the friction between traditional Indian beliefs and urban Indian lifestyles as they come to terms with each other, as well as simulating new identities and anxieties that arose during the pandemic. The visual content of his works becomes dramatic, comic-like, stylized, mythically charged, and sometimes, to an extent, erotic.

He completed his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts—Painting from Sir J.J. School of Arts (2014) and a Master’s in Visual Arts in the Graphic Department from M.S. University of Baroda, Gujarat (2016). He has been a recipient of several prestigious residencies, including ‘Smart Digital Realities-II,’ curated by Padmini Ray Murray, supported by TIFA-Pune and funded by the Goethe Institute, Maharashtra (2021); ‘Visualizing Language-Cycle24’ at Piramal Arts, Mumbai (2020); ‘Black Church Print Studio’ in association with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Dublin, Ireland (2019); ‘Space Studio’ for visual artists/printmakers at Vadodara, Gujarat (2019); ‘The Storytellers’ workshop organized by FICA and the Serendipity Arts Festival, Delhi (2018); ‘Kooshk’ India-Iran cultural exchange residency, Tehran, Iran (2017); ‘Chaap’ printmaking residency, Vadodara, Gujarat (2017); and ‘Khoj Peers Share’ Program, Khoj, Delhi (2016).
