Inspired by post-war abstractionists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Mark Rothko, and Cy Twombly, Delhi based textile designer turned artist Srishti Rana Menon’s gestural strokes make constellations on the canvas, questioning the inherent nature of the medium. Her overflowing forms test the surface tension as the pigments dissipate and settle in between the minute ridges of the grain, arranging themselves naturally around the canvas’ centre of gravity. Ripe with the possibility of unification, various smooth gradations emanate outward from a dense centre like peeling layers leading the eye to a revelation.
