George Martin

1973

George Martin thinks of an idea as a physical thing which has a form that has dimensions, shapes, patterns and structure. These ideas are manifested in a flow like the fluid structure of music. It is not so much about what the ideas are, but what they look like, and where they are located in relation to each other, similar to the aesthetics of sound. These body of works on paper tend to take on distinct identity through biological colouration of mutilated figures and pastiche of images from different resources.

George completed his B.F.A in sculpture from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and M.V.A in sculpture from Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. His solo shows include ‘So Far So Good’, Sumukha Gallery, Bangalore (2019); ‘Empty Envelops’, Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi (2013) and ‘Objective Voice’, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi (2009) among others. His curations include ‘Just Above the Horizon’, 2nd Pulau Ketam International Art Festival, Malaysia (2016); ‘Inbox – 81 + contemporary Indian artists on the dilemma of disposable culture’ (2015), Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad and ‘Tradition & Transition: Water colours from China & India’, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad (2014).
