G R Iranna
(b. 1970)
Born in 1970 in Karnataka, Iranna obtained his B.F.A. from the College of Visual Arts in Gulbarga and M.F.A. from Delhi College of Art. Iranna is a recipient of the National Academy award in 1997 and the M.F.Husain and Ram Kumar award. He has also been nominated from India for the ABPF Signature Art Prize 08, Singapore.
Iranna’s solo shows include ‘Scaffolding the Absent’ in 2011 and ‘Ribbed Routes’ in 2010, both at the Guild, Mumbai. He has also shown at The British Council and The Guild Art Gallery in 2001; Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, Cairo in 2000; Wimbledon School of Art, London in 2000; ‘In the Shadow of Buddha’ at Gallery Martini, Hong Kong in 1999; Gallery Espace, New Delhi in 1998; Aicon Gallery, London and New York, Delhi Art Gallery and Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1995. The artist’s first solo was held in 1992 at the College of Visual Art, Gulbarga.
Iranna’s group exhibitions include ‘The Contemporary Sultanate’ at Exhibit 320 (2012); ‘Continuum – Encapsulating the best of Contemporary Indian Art’, Art Cinnamon and LATITUDE 28, Singapore in 2011; ‘The Annual’, LATITUDE 28, New Delhi in 2011; ‘Indian (Sub)Way’, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi; Grosvenor Vadehra, London in 2010; and ‘Size Matters or Does it?’, LATITUDE 28, New Delhi in 2010.
