Abhay Bhalla
Abhay Bhalla is an artist and researcher. His practice involves the act of collecting. Photographs, videos, texts, sounds, objects and ideas collected over time, in different contexts, which come together at different moments, emerging as glimpses of fragments of the enquiries and propositions that have developed within his larger practice. His academic research focuses on areas of art history, art theory and philosophy – within the broader fluctuating realms of modern and contemporary art.
Abhay has completed his Masters in South Asian Studies with majors in History, and Art History and Visual Culture from the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University with a final thesis titled, “(Re)-locating the Start of Indian Contemporary Art”. He co-curated a show “Outliers, Rebels, Disruptors; Delhi Silpi Chakra – 70 years on” at the Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi in 2021. He is a founding member of ‘Chauraha’ – an artist collaborative group, based out of Delhi. He has completed his Masters in South Asian Studies with majors in History, and Art History and Visual Culture from the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University with a final thesis titled, “(Re)-locating the Start of Indian Contemporary Art”. He is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts from the Department of Art, Media and Performance at Shiv Nadar University.
