LATITUDE 28 remains steadfast in its commitment to contemporizing traditional genres and spotlighting emerging artists from the Global South. The gallery has built a reputation for being a launchpad for new talent, consistently offering a platform for artists to present innovative and thought-provoking works. This year, we continue to focus on artists who draw inspiration from the miniature tradition, skillfully translating the style through their own unique idioms and modern realities. We illuminate emerging artists from the Global South to underscore South Asia’s ever-growing contemporary art scene. By opening up the space to other forms of discourse, we can better challenge our preconceptions and the limits of what is considered contemporary art. The exhibition is simply an inscription of the dynamic conversations that happen between the past and what is emerging, giving these artists space to turn their back on history while being active in a moment that engages with today. We are pleased to announce that DCAW’s seventh edition will feature an outstanding lineup of artists, including Al-Qawi Nanavati, Ankush Safaya, Anupama Alias, Chandan Bez Baruah, Farhat Ali, Gopa Trivedi, Harisha Chennangod, Harman Taneja, Jahangir Asgar Jani, Khadim Ali, Prajjwal Choudhury, Pratul Dash, Sanket Viramgami, Shalina Vichitra, Shubham Kumar, Sudipta Das, Veena Advani, Viraj Khanna, Waswo X. Waswo, and Zahra Yazdani. The work in this piece invites the viewer to deeply engage with the shifting tale of contemporary South Asian art as much as its relevance in the ongoing global cultural conversation.
